Understanding your data
Waller is private by design. Everything lives on your device unless you create a backup. These answers explain how to protect your information and what to expect when you move between devices.
Local storage essentials
- Where is my data saved? Every profile, account, subscription, and transaction you add is stored only on this device. We do not run a cloud account or mirror your data elsewhere.
- What happens if I delete Waller? Removing the app or clearing its storage erases your data on this device. Restore from a backup if you want the information back.
- Who is responsible for data loss? You control your information. Waller cannot recover deleted data, so create backups before you make big changes.
Backups & transfers
- How do I keep a safe copy? Visit the Profile screen and tap Backup Data. Save the encrypted file somewhere secure that you control.
- How do I move to another device? Create a backup on the old device, copy the file to the new one, then use Restore Data inside Waller to bring everything across.
- Does Waller sync automatically? No. Each device keeps its own copy. Use the backup-and-restore flow whenever you want the same data on another device.
Pro subscriptions
- Is Pro shared between my devices? Pro is device-based. Each phone or tablet needs its own purchase through the store.
- What if I change phones? Restore your backup on the new device and re-activate Pro there. The store will confirm the purchase belongs to that device.
- Do backups include Pro? Backups include your data but not the store purchase. Activate Pro separately on each device.
Home & profiles
Stay in control of your dashboard and personal settings with these tips for quick actions, profile management, and appearance changes.
Home screen basics
- How do I add a transaction fast? Use the Income, Expense, or Transfer buttons at the top of Home. The form opens with the correct type ready.
- Why do totals differ from my bank? Waller only counts the entries you record here. Add missing items or adjust balances to match your bank statements.
- What does a locked account card mean? You have reached the free account limit. Unlock it by activating Waller Pro on this device or archiving an older account.
Managing profiles
- How do I switch profiles? Tap your avatar on the Home or Profile screen, then choose any profile or create a new one.
- Can I change the language or theme? Yes. Open the Profile screen, choose Language or Appearance, and pick the option you like. Changes apply immediately on this device.
- How do I keep profiles safe? Make regular backups, especially before clearing data or moving to a new device.
Data housekeeping
- Can I clear all data? The Clear All Data button on the Profile screen wipes everything on this device. Only tap it if you have a backup or no longer need the data.
- What is included in a backup? All profiles, accounts, categories, transactions, subscriptions, and settings saved on this device.
- Can I schedule backups? Automatic scheduling is not available yet. Set a reminder to back up manually after big updates.
Accounts & categories
Build a clear view of your money by tailoring accounts and categories. These answers show you how to edit details, copy bank info, and keep things tidy.
Working with accounts
- How do I edit account info? Open an account card and tap the edit icon. Update the name, image, currency, or notes, then save.
- How can I copy bank details? Expand the bank details section and tap the copy or share buttons next to each field.
- Can I hide sensitive numbers? Yes. Collapse the bank details section whenever you finish reviewing, or remove the data entirely.
Account access
- Why is an account locked? Free plans have a limit on active accounts. Upgrade to Pro on this device or archive unused accounts to unlock space.
- How do I move an account to another device? Include it in a backup, copy the backup file, then restore it on the new device.
- What if I delete an account? Deleted accounts and their transactions are removed from this device. Restore from backup if you removed it by mistake.
Categories & tags
- How do I add or rename a category? Use the Categories screen to create or edit names and icons. Changes apply to future entries right away.
- Can I merge categories? Rename a category and move existing transactions into it, then delete the old one once everything looks right.
- Do categories sync across devices? No. They stay on this device. Export and restore if you want the same set elsewhere.
Transactions & subscriptions
Capture spending, income, and recurring charges with confidence. These FAQs cover editing entries, adding images, and tracking subscriptions and charges.
Recording transactions
- How do I edit or delete an entry? Tap a transaction in the list to open its detail view. Use the edit or delete buttons at the top.
- Can I record a transfer? Yes. Choose Transfer when you create the entry, then pick the “from” and “to” accounts.
- How do I attach a receipt? On the transaction form tap the image boundary. Image uploads are a Pro feature on each device.
Working with details
- Why do I see title suggestions? Waller remembers names you have used before. Tap a suggestion to fill the title quickly.
- Where can I view attached images? Open the transaction detail screen. Images appear under the Image section and can be removed or replaced.
- How do I link a subscription charge? Open a charge detail and tap “Create Transaction” or open a transaction that already links to view the related charge.
Managing subscriptions
- How do I add a subscription? Tap the add button on the Subscriptions screen, fill in the plan name, frequency, and amount, then save.
- How do I filter subscriptions? Use the chip filters for accounts, categories, frequency, and status to find exactly what you need.
- What do the badges mean? Badges show whether a plan is recurring, one-time, trial, upcoming, or cancelled so you can glance at the status.
- Are subscription records stored online? No. Like the rest of Waller, they stay on this device unless you include them in a backup.
